iPhoto doesn't open with the Mac Big Sur update. How do I extract the photos?

Please can someone help me?

I have just updated my mac with the new update and didn't realise it was going to stop me from using apple's own apps- in the case, iPhoto. All of my photos are saved to that app and the only other app they were on was Aperture (which I paid for!) and now that's not compatible either.

I'm hoping someone knows how to extract the photos from iPhoto!

Thank you in advance.

Both Aperture and iPhoto were discontinued 5 years ago. They are no longer developed or sold. iPhoto was replaced by the more powerful (and free) Photos.app that comes with the OS. You can migrate to that app very simply:

Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch Photos. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and point at your iPhoto Library. It will do the rest.

Aperture they simply did not replace.

If you prefer not to use Photos there are several 3rd party apps that you can use. Which to choose depends on the kind of photographer you are and your budget.
