When entering any building that has public wi-fi, my iPad immediately will give me the Captive Portal” warning and will not close from flashing this screen every few seconds despite hitting cancel. The only way to kill this is to reboot. This is a huge annoyance! How do you get this to stop?

Perhaps your iPad is configured to Auto-Join for this network?
Next time you are within range of the offending network, try to disable Auto-Join:
Settings > WiFi > [WiFi Network Name / SSID] - tap the “i” icon - Auto Join - set to OFF
Alternatively, to prevent the automatic network join prior to being in proximity of the unwanted network, you can reset your iPad Network Settings:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
If you reset your network settings, you’ll have to re-enter your network passwords for networks to to which you do wish to connect.
