My computer is showing numbers next to items in the pull down menus. For instance, if I click on File, then numbers show up to the left of each item to choose from. It's also really, really slow. Anybody else having these problems?

Sounds like an accessibiliy feature. You can find in this article where to turn it on, so also where to turn it of. I this is not it a screenshot (cmd+shift+4) would help.
