MacBook Air can’t connect to Apple ID servers?

I haven’t used my Mac since December last year and need to reset its password. When taken to the “change password using Apple ID” link, I’m notified that My laptop won’t connect to the Apple ID servers, leaving me unable to change my Mac password. I’ve been stuck in this loop for weeks and would love to be able to use my Mac, any help?
