MacBook Pro rejecting correct Apple ID and password

I am having issues connecting my apple ID to my MacBook pro(early 2015 model). I attempt to sign in my apple ID through the system preferences page and when I add in the correct information it seems to neither accept or deny it which then takes me back to the option/ original page of filling in my apple ID username. I have updated my mac to the lastest version of MacOs Monetery (12.6.5) as well as switching email accounts for the apple ID with a changed password. How can I fix this issue?

Try again while the iMac is booted in SafeMode. Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support
