Apple watch won't connect to mac after updating to Big Sur (can't re-enable auto unlock)

I've gone through these forums trying some re-connection suggestions from earlier in the year (pre-big sur) to no avail.

Have disconnected the watch and re-added on iCloud, deleted all the preferences on the mac and restarted multiple times. Force restarted the watch. Incredibly annoying.

Unable to unlock Mac Pro with Apple Watch since latest watchOS update How does one fix the "inability" to unlock a Mac with the Apple Watch after the watchOS 6.2.8 update ? Issue: Unlocking my MacPro 2013 worked flawlessly and this for a long time but prior the latest watchOS 6.2.8 update last week... Since then, am absolutely unable to unlock my Mac Pro with the watch... Tried many things to no avail, including the last resort of un-pair/re-pair watch to iPhone as well as resetting the watch to factory settings. The "Use your Apple Watch to unlock apps and your Mac" in Security and Privacy setting is ticked and my Mac Pro does connect to the watch if box is un-ticked and ticked back again. When the Mac Pro goes to sleep, I simply cannot use the watch any longer to unlock my Mac !!! Why is that ? Any idea how to fix this issue ? Many thanks

Can't unlock iMac with Apple Watch in Catalina Unlocking my iMac with my Apple Watch has always been a little flaky, but now under 10.15.2 I can't get it to work at all. My Watch will unlock my MacBook Pro (also running 10.15.2) just fine, and if I boot my iMac into Mojave the Watch will unlock the iMac. I've tried toggling the checkbox to allow the Watch to unlock the Mac, restarted both devices several times, etc. Bluetooth and WiFi are on on the iMac. Wondering if anyone has any other suggestions to try. I think this issue started up after I went from 10.15.1 to 10.15.2, although if I recall there was a WatchOS update at about the same time.

Solved it — resetting the watch and reinstalling from a backup did the trick.
