Internet link file icons have no image (they appear as a blank page)

My issue: The internet link file icons have no image (they appear as a blank page). All other file icons are unchanged. If the internet icons are double-clicked they function correctly by opening Safari. See 2 of the 3 icons in the screenshot below... 2 are internet links and 1 is Excel.

Also, inside the Get Info window for the internet file, the "Open with" and "Change All..." section is greyed out and cannot be edited.

I'm running macOS Catalina 10.15.7... so I should be up to date with the latest. I've tried repairing permissions via Disk Utility without any success.

Does anyone out there have any idea how to fix this issue? Thanks for the help up front!

Hi - No, this is not the issue. It's regarding the internet link file icons on my desktop. They were fine for years and recently seemed to have become corrupted.

In summary my issue has two symptoms:

1) All of my internet link file icons have no image within the icon (the image appears as a blank page). They still function correctly by opening Safari to the appropriate website.

2) In the Get Info window for the internet file, the "Open with" and "Change All..." section is greyed out and cannot be edited. So I'm unable to change to a different browser other than Safari.

Attempted solutions: ran repairs in Disk Utility, and restored the whole macOS system which did not resolve the problem.

Any ideas?

Oops... my bad. I don't save .weblocs in Firefox so, I was woRng.

A nice fella over at macrumors said:

"I keep all weblocs in the same folder automatically, using an app that as soon as I drag one on the desktop it transfers it to the specific folder for webloc. Than it’s easy to select them all and command +option-I , paste the icon and voila.

Or you can search for webloc by kind on your Mac,

select them all with command +option-I

and paste your icon of choice."

I got an email this morning from the Apple Tech I chatted with Last Month about this same problem. He said:

The issue is still under investigation, their email said anyone who submitted a request about the issue will receive a mass email when the investigation is complete and they have a resolution, so I will get one once they have fixed the issue.

"Mass" meaning it's widespread, right?

To which I answered:

Thanx a bunch, Steve! I’m just surprised that they didn’t fix it with the last Security and Safari Build. It’s just a matter of recompiling the icns Folder… If I knew what I was doing, that shouldn't take more than Ten Minutes, right?

One more thing. I notice that it takes my Mac Pro 2010 about 5-10 minutes to shutdown, since that last Build. If you could tell them that too. Obviously my old OS is not even on their Radar.
