erase an old employee's icloud account from company phone? Ipohne XR

Hi guys i have one of our companies phones back to me after an employee has left our company,

His Icloud account is still on the device but it needs to be logged in but he says he deleted the account and now i cant set up a icloud on this device,

Any pointers in how i delete his icloud and erase the device

If the device is activation locked, or still signed into their Apple ID and you don't have contact with them to be able to remove it, select CONTACT SUPPORT at the top of the screen. Apple will be the only ones that can help you directly. You will need some form of proof of purchase of the unit showing that you or the business owns it. If it is a business unit, you may have to contact Apple's Education / Business support teams.
