Podcast App - "can't connect right now."

I’m trying to use the podcast app yet every podcast I go to I receive the message "can't connect right now." followed by a Retry button that doesn’t do anything other than briefly refresh the screen only to display the message above again. I don’t have this issue with other podcast apps on this phone so that certainly narrows down the troubleshooting. I would use another app but really wanted to just use the basic Apple app across all my devices.

Reading through the forums this appears to have been happening three years ago as well and had something to do with the various stores. I’m based in the U.S. using a brand new phone, 12, with the latest iOS version.

Anyone have any solutions or should I just call Apple support?
