iPhone X bloated battery

I have a iPhone X that's about 2 1/2 years old and about 2 months after my Apple Care expired I noticed the seal on both sides of the phone starting to lift away from the stainless steel edge of the phone. I really like my iPhone and don't want change models but if I have to I will. What should I do in this situation? Go to the Apple store? Will it be repaired or replaced? Any thoughts?

Your phone is well Out of Warranty, so you can't say it's a manufacturing defect. It can happen to any battery, you just got (un)lucky.

You can ask Apple if they'll give you anything for the phone in trade, but it's most unlikely they will. You'll have two options:

  1. An Out of Warranty replacement which means they'll give you a replacement iPhone X for about 60% of the cost of the device when new
  2. Or, they'll recycle your device for you and you can buy a newer brand new iPhone

You need to immediately STOP using that phone. The battery has most assuredly swelled and that can be dangerous. I'll also alert a forum host to have them contact you. I suggest you turn the phone off and get it to an Apple Store Genius Bar as soon as you can.

It is highly doubtful Apple will repair the phone. You should be prepared to purchase a new phone.
