I called support on this issue, regarding the lock/unlock feature missing on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. I was told that Apple would not unlock that feature until they release (or if they release) their folio case. As a long time iPhone user, this response is as about as disappointing as they come. While I can appreciate ecosystem lock-in, to a point, not releasing a feature we know exists (because my XS Max is running the exact same OS) just because apple does not have its own product to offer yet and therefore could lose some sales to third parties, is petty and short sighted. I hope Apple addresses this in their next iOS update.

I was worried this was the answer, and it makes sense. However, has someone confirmed this by actually opening one of the phones? From the linked article, they do not disclose how they know there’s no sensor.

Yes I know, they probably didn't know but the TORRO spec they sent me is from Apple and you can clearly see the HES is missing, I think the apple designers know but the message didn't reach customer support.

Yes, I called them up. Apple publish a third party accessory design spec, the screenshots are from this which is the official published schematics and the sensor is missing. If you google apple accessory design guide the PDF is actually online.

I know, I asked in store and they had no idea, I called TORRO who I bought my cover from and they had all of the answers as they had the official design guide for accessories.
