External backup drive and wireless printer / scanner combo help

I am not tech savvy at all and need to get 2 things for my MacBook Air :

  1. External backup drive (at least 1 TB
  2. Wireless printer and scanner combo to use at home

Can you please simplify my life and tell me what brand and model I need, so I can place my order asap? I have read MACs are compatible with all but need the best option please.

Thank you in advance

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

Hello.

I have very good experiences with Western Digital hard drives. I have a 2 tb WD Elements as a backup drive for my MacBook Air. Just need to keep in mind that it has the correct connection to hook it up. USB-C for the latest Mac's. Or USB-A (2.0 or 3.0) for the older models, like my 2017 MacBook Air.

You will likely have to reformat the new drive as they are generally pre formatted as NTFS, which is used by Windows. MacOS can read those partitions, but can't write to them. Deleting and creating partitions, and formatting them, can be done with MacOS's Disk Management app which you will find in the Other group in Launchpad :)

I have a Canon laser printer which is wifi capable, but I have it directly hooked up to my Mac through a USB hub. No experience with scanners sadly.

When it comes to brands. Canon and HP are highly compatible with MacOS.

Hope this help a bit :)
