My brand new AirPods will not connect

My brand new AirPods will not connect. When I hold the button for even more than 1 minute the status light flash white the whole time and I do not see any amber light at all. Then after releasing the button, the status light continue blinking green. So I cannot connect to my iPhone/Macbook.
