Some of my photos have gone missing

Hi,

a few weeks back I turned off my iCloud and my photos from dec 2019 to April 2020 had disappeared? Is there any way I can retrieve them back? I’ve tried turning my iCloud back on but it doesn’t seem to be working. I now have a new phone and all of my photos are still there but those particular ones are still missing
