Back Buttons on Computer Mice

Here is an interesting question about computer mice. Before I installed Big Sur, I must have unknowingly hit a combination of keys by accident, because NONE of the "Back" buttons on any of my mice work anymore. What did I do? I have to use the left pointing arrow at the top left to go back. This happens both on the Internet and when NOT on the Internet. My Mac does not recognize the Back button on ANY of my mice.

I've been using Logitech mice with both my iMac and my MacBook Pro. I was able to install Logitech Options and make changes/modify the function of the buttons on the mice. Then—suddenly—the Forward & Back buttons no longer work on my iMac. ????? They work with the Lenovo laptop I have, but no longer with my iMac. So—I wonder what the H*** happened? I've checked settings. I've checked System Preferences. I've also noticed I can no longer get Logitech Options to operate after installing it again. I was pleased with how everything worked so well with iMac and Logitech. Now—I'm very disappointed.

This is a true mystery.

Hey there, Figmo6673.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! Thanks for posting about the issues you're seeing with your mice after updating to macOS Big Sur. We'd be glad to see what we can do to assist.

Are you working with an Apple mouse or the mouse from a third-party? We just want to make sure we fully understand, as certain functions may require additional software to work properly, and with Big Sur being such large update, you may need to update the software to maintain the same functionality you had before. Is this a wired or wireless mouse?

The more info you can provide to us, the better equipped we'll be to help out.

Take care.

Thanks for clarifying.

So we did some checking and it looks like both of those models should still be supported by the latest version of Logitech Options in Big Sur. To make sure you have the latest version, check this page for a download link: Logitech Support: After the Logitech Control Center (LCC) limited compatibility period ends, which devices will not be supported in Logitech Options?

If the latest version is installed and the expected functionality is still not present, reach out to Logitech Support for more help.

Be well!
