Apple TV streaming when abroad

Why am I not able to watch the Apple TV content on my iPad when traveling abroad? I was unpleasantly surprised to be told by the TV app that the content was not available in the country or region. The Apple original content (Greyhound, other movies and series) in Germany?? I’m still on a free subscription right now but I’m certainly not going to pay for it if the video content is only available at home.
