iPhone Contacts not syncing to MacBook

My iPhone contacts are backed up on iCloud but do not match the contacts on my MacBook. What do I need to do to make them sync?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.0

Try unchecking/re-checking Contacts under System Preferences > Apple ID > Contacts.

Try - If you see duplicate contacts after setting up iCloud Contacts - Apple Support.

Thanks! That worked to get the correct addresses but now they are listed twice - the correct address and the wrong address. How to make sure they are only listed once? It must have something to do with iCloud?
