Now have two Macintosh HD-Data in disc utility???

1) Open Disk Utility

2) Select each volume in the list.

3) Look in the info pane for the Mount Point.

4) Use that information and remove the defunct "- Data" volume as I described above (the one mounted at /Volumes/

In the Finder, you can rename the startup drive so it isn't called - Data. You can actually use any name you want.

The Data volume will also be renamed to match the startup volume.

Did you reinstall the OS? It looks like you reinstalled onto the Macintosh HD - Data drive from the original install. That created a new - Data volume.

The startup drive should be mounted at /

Leave com.apple.os.updates alone.

The - Data drive should be mounted at /System/Volumes/Data

The - Data volume mounted at /Volumes/ is the original (now unused) data volume.

You can see the Mount Point in Disk Utility when you select each.

You can remove a Volume by selecting it and pressing the Remove ( – ) button.

Hi Barney, Thank you. I also have the problem of my disc utility being on my desk top, are you able to advise how I safely deal with that, don't ask me how that came about ... I do not know :) but do not see the advantage of it being there and would appreciate it not being on my desk top.
