Same here. After updating Safari to 14.0.1 I was unable to upload any files. Called Apple support on 11/16/2020. They had me on hold for 45 minutes. When they finally connected me with a technician, I was on the line with him for another 40 minutes and resolved nothing. He suggested that I install Chrome or Firefox. Unbelievable, Apple installs a crappy update, they can’t fix it, and their solution is to install someone else’s software.
I have the same problem although it only started in mid January, before that I had no issue.
Problem - Using gmail in Safari, clicking the attach button does not produce the finder window. As far as I can tell, nothing happens when clicking the button. It is occurring on my iMac, I am also running Mojave (macOS10.14.6)
Dragging & dropping the files into the email works but it's really clunky.
Surely the problem could be resolved?
Yes I am having the same problem, in my case since the most recent update to Safari 14.0.2. I'm also using Mohave 10.14.6.
I'm currently working around it by dragging and dropping the files I want to attach into the email. But it's a pain!
Surely Safari could sort the problem?!
REALLY Trillion Dollar Corporation is pointing us to a competitor product after releasing a bug in an update or forcing a major update to the OS.
If this is TRUE then we need to re-examine who we choose to spend our IT Budget with moving forward. On the phone with APPLE as I type and the first line agent seem to be ok with the reported notion and ask if there was something else I wanted him to do. The person seemed oblivious to grave disturbance with all of it.
So I said yes. I would like him to confirm or deny that claim reported in the forum and offer an official APPLE Solution or report on the bug. Sad day in American Business History if this is true. REALLY SAD !!!
We the consumers are ultimately responsible for Corporate Bullies. Don't buy their products and services and the problem fixes itself. "Too Big to Fail" Some so called Giants should be brought their knees to bring them back down to where they all started and where the rest of us down here on Planet Hurt Tread Everyday !
To add insult to injury, not only has anyone from Apple responded on this topic here; but they are aware of it. I got that link (to update to Catalina with Safari 13 without going to Big Sur) from a Help Desk attendant at Apple. They provided me with the link to this particular forum/thread! Good grief...what is with these people?
ps... anybody using Catalina and any of the Safari 14 set (other than the beta) with success? or are you all using Mojave?
Safari 14.0.x work fine on Big Sur (on my M1 Mac mini) it is just Mojave on the Intel Mac mini with the issue. Unfortunately I need 32 bit for software development and certain printer and scanner drivers. My solution was to reinstall Mojave and do the updates but NOT the Safari 14.0.1 and 14.0.2 updates. 14.0 is fine.
Go to System Preferences / Software update
it will "Check for Updates"
do not Upgrade NOW... that will upgrade to Big Sur or Catalina instead...
click on the blue link below the "Another update is available.
says.. More Info...
the Safari update will show up in the list...
quit safari and run the update.
While I was asking an online support person about Safari 14.02 working with Catalina, I found that 14.03 Safari suddenly showed up in my updates list. Installed it and it works. Thanks to everyone. Hopefully Apple will learn from this (but I don't plan on holding my breath...Covid or no Covid!)
It has to do with HTML multipart/formdata and the fix is described here:
and consists of writing an “accept” for the filetype, e.g.
<input type="file" accept=".xls,.xlsx,.xlsb,.txt,.csv,.tsv” />
It worked for me.
There are at least half a dozen threads here reporting the same bug. Please report it to Apple.
Have to use Chrome until this Safari problem
gets fixed by Apple.
CONFIRMED - I re-installed Mojave and now gmail.com > Attach and Dropbox.com > Upload Files work as intended ...
Thanks for the tip
