My daughter who is in college and has a mac air. She is not able work on her English hw because the site says " parts of Aplia site require Flash, which is not supported by your device. To access full site, please login from a device that supports Flash. Anyway to work around this?

Your daughter's institution of higher learning needs to educate itself. Adobe announced they will be discontinuing support for their Flash Player product on all platforms everywhere about three years ago.

Flash is still available, i downloaded a version on a spare MacBook book running Mt Lion over the weekend.
since there are many fake sites i go through system preferences and click the flash update through there
if your daughter's MacBook does not have flash she can still down load a version from their site.
shame about her school being stone aged as John Galt mentioned and hopefully the get with the program soon
