Phone number links bug

iphone 12 mini running iOS 14.1. When I click on a phone number (auto-recognised as a link) the phone puts a + symbol in front of the number when calling. The call then fails because it is not an international call and should not have the +

Any ideas how to control this behaviour?

p.s. I love the way the “what device is this about” list below doesn’t actually include the phone I’m using right now, and when I go to manually select an iPhone 12 the list only goes up to 11...

Does it add this using all contacts?

Have you checked the format used in Contacts list.

Spaces, Hyphen or Parentheses in a Phone number depends on the International prefix

Watch the GIF below. Note here only numbers is being input, but Spaces, Hyphen or Parentheses are added by iPhone automatically

Thanks. No, it does not add in the plus when I call from a contact. This was clicking on a number written in a note. The number was written as 0800..... then on pressing return it turned into a clickable number, and when clicking it dials +0800.....
