microsoft 365/microsoft office 2011

I have a problem with the new mac update (big sur)

I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015) with a microsoft office 2011 pack installed on it.

After both the Catalina and Big Sur update i can't seem to open my office programmes again.

It says i have to have a microsoft 365 membership, and there is no option to write my product key.

So does anyone know if the 2011 office pack doesn't work for the new updates?

and if the only way to get word/office now is to have a yearly subscription?

oh, and on microsoft webpage it says that support on office 2011 is cancelled.

Office 2011 for Mac is a 32-bit architecture product, and starting with macOS Catalina, no 32-bit applications are supported. Although your Microsoft documents are not affected by the 32/64-bit application issue, you will need to choose:

  1. New Microsoft 365 subscription for newer 64-bit Office applications (availabe in Mac App Store)
  2. New one-time purchase of Office 2019 for Mac ($150 home/student, $250 home/business, or your best deal)
  3. Use the free, 64-bit LibreOffice Suite which is a Microsoft clone

Note: Microsoft retired Office 2016 for Mac in Oct/2020, so no more updates or support for it.
