HEIC Photo format problematic, Here's what I discovered!

OK, so I don't know what this business is with the photos with the .HEIC extension! I don't really care anymore! I did read various questions I found here in Communities. People don't seem to understand what the question asker is trying to convey!

"Why are photos with .HEIC greyed out with Mac iOS Catalina?"

People need basic answers, not technical mumbo jumbo! I did see two answers that answered my riddle. First I guess you can go to your settings on your phone, select - camera: Select - Formats: and change to MOST COMPATIBLE, which will always use JPEG. The default is HIGH EFFICIENCY HEIF/HEVC format (Ummm....no mention of HEIC??)

The High Efficiency format is NOT compatible with MANY websites! Which is the problem I am having! And none of anyone's business which site and why I want to know! Soooo.....while this High Efficiency is a much smaller file, the rest of the world will just never catch up with Apple technology! My workaround is to find the photo I need, open it in the viewer, go to - File; Export: and you will be asked for the format and location to save!

This sounds easy to me, if not, go ahead and trash me ~~LOL~~ Just tired of being frustrated with the problem and decided to kill some time, because we have had a lot of that in 2020! Cheers!

Those are the correct workarounds - Either change your phone to use jpg, or export the files to jpg before sending to a website. No need to trash anyone :-)

But you don't need to open it in the viewer, you can export directly from the all photos view, and you can select as many as you like, and export them all in one step.

By the way - HEIF is high efficiency image format. HEIC is High efficiency image container - the container into which you put the HEIF image. No don't ask me, I don't know why either.
