How copy text into Terminal command line zsh

Somehow something seems to have been changed with my zsh (zshell) configuration or Terminal settings under macOS Catalina (10.15.7): if I copy some text, say from a TextEdit window, the usual paste command and shortcut-key no longer copy that text onto the command line in Terminal.

How fix this?

Using ⌘+C in selected TextEdit text, and ⌘+V in clicked Terminal window (so it is frontmost), I have no issues copy/pasting from TextEdit into a Zsh shell on Catalina 10.15.7, or the released Big Sur. This even includes dragging text as a textClipping from TextEdit onto the Terminal window, and releasing it — where it pastes just fine.
