Is there anyway to attach a PDF document to a text message or SMS message or iMessage using the messaging app for text messaging on a sixth generation iPad and running iPadOS 14.2?

You can attach a pdf to an iMessage. Open the pdf in whatever app it resides. Then tap the share icon and select Messages from the share option. Then select the person that you want to send the text to.

SMS (Short Message Service) messaging over Cellular, by definition, does not support attachments.
