Home Theater Setup

I already have an LG sound bar that I use with my Apple TV 4K... Can I use 2 HomePods in stereo pair for the rear channels while I keep the sound bar under the TV and have them all sync together to create a surround sound setup?

My understanding currently is that if I pair 2 HomePods together I can not simultaneously use a sound bar as well...
