How do I stop my iPhone 7 from recording .MOV files (motion pictures) when the camera indicates "PHOTO"?

It was so simple to remove photos from my ZTE/Virgin Mobile phone and put them onto my desktop computer (Windows 10) or memory stick. However, the iPhone 7 seems to make a near-duplicate movie of 2 or 3 seconds duration to accompany each still photo (.JPG) file it creates. A huge waste of file space, and of my time, to move all this extraneous .MOV c__p. I do not need a .MOV file, when the camera indicated "PHOTO" in amber when I take pictures. If I wanted video, I would set the camera to video.

And, when I try to delete certain .MOV files from the phone, the phone claims that I "do not have permission" to remove them!

Is it possible to prevent the iPhone 7 camera from creating .MOV files?

Step-by-step, how?

Thank you Razmee, but did you read what Apple support has written about turning OFF

its "live photos" feature? It is as follows:

"The Camera app turns Live Photos on again automatically. To keep Live Photos off permanently, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Camera > Preserve Settings.
  3. Make sure that the switch next to Live Photos is turned on."

If that instruction is accurate, it is about as counterintuitive as it could be. Turn off that feature

by having the "switch" for it turned on. Brilliant advice, Apple. Brilliant design. Does anyone at Apple

actually read and edit its online "support"?

Apple, I have now spent some two hours deleting the .MOV files that your iPhone 7 camera

app has created for me. It would have been a lot quicker had you allowed me to hold the "control"

button down in order to select dozens of unwanted .MOV files to delete them all at once, but it seems

that some of your .MOV files are quite stubborn and don't want to be removed from the DCIM.

So, you are now on your way to filling my free iCloud storage with "waste paper", to help me reach

my storage limit all the quicker, which you apparently hope will bring me to your door to ask

for more storage space, then for a nominal fee of some sort.

I won't do that. I have removed the "camera" icon from the main screen and will probably

not use your gimmicky camera app much in the future. Thanks for wasting my time.

Razmee, can you please explain Apple's thinking?

Can you explain their counterintuitive instruction to turn off "live photos"?

Can you explain why Apple (and maybe you, too,) imagine that the consumer

has nothing better to do than learn the fine points of operating their products?

Even if Apple does not manage or provide this forum, they may be interested

enough in customer opinion and service issues to check it. I hope so.

Do people not read the term of service that they signed up for, if they did they would know that there is no Apple here in these user to user technical forums.
