Restore Deleted Documents from iCloud

I was recently trying to minimize my storage usage on iCloud and did not realize that the documents I was deleting were not stored directly on my MacBook. I deleted the documents using my IPhone to reduce cloud storage and now no documents are showing up on my Mac. I am curious is there any way for me to restore the documents to my computer/iCloud or are they truly deleted forever?
