Translate on iPhone 8 "unavailable at the moment" since updating to iOS 14.2

The Translate.app worked fine on my iPhone 8 until I updated to iOS 14.2, now I get the message that "Translate is unavailable at the moment. Try again at a later time". It never is available later 🤔

Also I don't see the translate option in Safari on the iPhone 8 but it works on my wife's iPhone 11.

The translate web page works in Safari on my MacBook Pro since updating to Big Sur so it isn't a network issue, at least not with the MacBook and Big Sur...

Make sure you wait at least 30 seconds after shutting down before restarting.

I'd always thought waiting 15 - 20 seconds was OK, but, I read this properly:

Doing that resolved the problem I had with translations not being an option in Safari on my iPhone 8.

Sorry to hear that.

If you go to Settings - Translate, and activate "On-device mode" does that work?

In which case it could be a network problem - not connecting to the Apple server?

Same issue here with iOS 14.2. I have already deleted and reinstalled the translate app. Even with several restarts and new dictionary downloads but no luck. It still states "translate currently not available". Any ideas?
