What terrible advice. A quick search online will tell one that Intuit Quickbooks is not compatible with BigSur. Why make a Mac user go through this process for nothing.

What part of my advice is terrible? My advice is spot on. If QuickBooks doesn't have an update for compatibility with Big Sur (which you have confirmed it doesn't), then the user either must wait for the developer to update the app or go back to an earlier version of macOS that is compatible with the app. Some users just cannot wait for the app to be updated. Besides the OP may have other apps that are not compatible with Big Sur (plus Big Sur still likely has some bugs and the OP upgraded accidentally). I provided multiple options from the easiest to the most inconvenient. How is that terrible advice?

I agree with you. You addressed the original question accurately. It was a knee jerk reaction to being told almost every time I contact apple low level support that I need to erase and reinstall my operating system, rather than dig into the actual issue. I did not read the original question thoroughly. Apologies.

Apple Support doesn't normally go looking for the underlying issue in most cases unless you are a school or business. They will try a few very basic things, then it is either a clean install or restore from a backup made when the system was still working correctly. I agree it is frustrating. However, it can be quicker than trying to figure out the underlying cause. If you want to try to understand the failure, then your best option is to run EtreCheck and post the report here on these forums so the regular contributors can try to assist you.

First try updating the QuickBooks software. Many times the third party apps need to be updated to work with a newer version of the OS.

If the update doesn't work or if there is no update and you cannot wait for one, then restore the system from a backup made before the upgrade to Big Sur.

If you don't have a backup from before Big Sur, then manually transfer your documents to an external drive. Then perform a clean install of macOS by first erasing the whole physical drive before reinstalling macOS. You will need to create a bootable macOS 10.15 Catalina USB installer using these instructions:

Here are the instructions for performing a clean install (instead of booting into Recovery Mode you will boot from the Catalina USB installer):
