Is the MacBook Pro with M1 providing less power to devices connected to the USB-C Ports

Is the MacBook Pro with M1 providing less power to devices connected to the USB-C Ports?

I have just received my MacBook Pro 13" with M1 and tried using an Anker USB-C Hub (Has Thunderbolt passthrough on 1 of 2 Connected ports), and when I attache a Thunderbolt SSD that I use in this configuration all the time on my 15" MacBook Pro, but in the new M1 I get a message "ACCESSORY NEEDS MORE POWER". This is disturbing especially now that I only have 2 ports.

MacBook Pro 13″, OS X 10.11

Is this hub have its own power source?

If not try connecting your "Thunderbolt SSD " directly to to the Mac.

I would suspect it is a hub issue.

Hello Jstephe,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are unable to use an USB-C hub with your MacBook Pro as you get a message about "Accessory Needs More Power" on your Mac. To help with this, please follow the relevant steps in this Apple resource for this situation, and then contact Apple directly if you need any further assistance.

It isn't a hub issue. I literally can't even plug in two SSDs directly into my M1 MacBook Pro at the same time--the Mac can't supply enough power. What the point of having two ports if you can't use them both at once? This is a total dealbreaker on an otherwise great computer.

How can they even get away with calling it a "pro" computer if it effectively only has one port?

No the issue question is

does the new MacBook Pro M1 have low power Thunderbolt \ USB-C ports?

asking because I have an Anker USB-C hub and a Samsung Portable SSD that I currently use with my MacBook Pro 15” from 2019, but the same set of accessories does not work with the new MacBook Pro M1 because it appears the power output is less.
