HomePod Mini Not Connecting to Apple TV

I got the HomePod mini and it's not coming up as an option on my Apple TV 4K. When I turned on the Apple TV it didn't ask about using the HomePod. Also it's not listed as a devise under the Video/Audio on the Apple. I updated the HomePod software and verified my Apple TV and iPhone 12 are up to date. Any other ideas?

@Bam Bam - Sorry, but there will be no "fix". Things are working exactly as Apple described in their keynote and in this document:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207705

The relevant quote: "Home theater audio doesn't support HomePod mini or other AirPlay 2-compatible speakers." They are reserving this feature for the big HomePods only.

I certainly don't know the internal details because I don't work for Apple. But this seems pretty conclusive.

BTW, Apple engineers do not read the user forums, these are for users only. It is not a good place for feature requests.

The problem is that despite this works, you have to do it every single time you use Apple TV. It won’t automatically default to HomePod mini. Also I had Apple TV playing this morning and turned off the tv when I was about to go to work, but HomePod mini kept playing the audio of the show. I asked Siri to stop playing and she didn’t know how to 🤦🏼‍♀️ So it seems that you need to stop or pause a program on Apple TV as well as turn of tv power for audio to stop.

I think it’s crap that I got two HomePod mini’s for Christmas, and after three phone calls to AppleCare, I am still unable to use these in my living room with my AppleTV 4K unit. Even with the back door method of connecting via the control center, that connection only lasts until a power cycle, and that’s if both HomePods stay connected to each other and the AppleTV. Hopefully Apple can get this fixed before I return them at the end of January.

The longer I use Apple products (have been using since 1993) the less I like or trust them. Apple products were created and excelled in popularity as being easier to use than Windows yet as time goes on Apple is quirkier, "janky" and is all about revenue for apps like Apple Tv +. They've lost what Steve Jobs was about, integrity, ease of use and cross platforms.

Gimme a break. Using them with your AppleTV 4K in stereo pair IS something that is supposed to work and does not. The speakers are continually un-pairing, unavailable in the ATV menu, uncontrollable via Home app, etc. He along with many others aren't even talking about "Home Theater audio".... which I assume they mean 5.1 surround. We're talking about basic functionality.

I was able to connect my new HomePod mini to our Vizio tv. You have to have one that supports Airplay, using your Tv remote (not your Apple remote) go into input scroll through until you see Airplay and setup that way. Essentially you’re adding your physical Tv to HomeKit and it should pair seamlessly. At least it has for me on two different TVs
