I got the HomePod mini and it's not coming up as an option on my Apple TV 4K. When I turned on the Apple TV it didn't ask about using the HomePod. Also it's not listed as a devise under the Video/Audio on the Apple. I updated the HomePod software and verified my Apple TV and iPhone 12 are up to date. Any other ideas?

@Bam Bam - Sorry, but there will be no "fix". Things are working exactly as Apple described in their keynote and in this document:

The relevant quote: "Home theater audio doesn't support HomePod mini or other AirPlay 2-compatible speakers." They are reserving this feature for the big HomePods only.
I certainly don't know the internal details because I don't work for Apple. But this seems pretty conclusive.
BTW, Apple engineers do not read the user forums, these are for users only. It is not a good place for feature requests.
Do the two minis work in stereo? Everything I'm reading is that the minis will not support the home theatre surround sound or Dolby. The regular HomePods will. This is a bit disappointing.
Honestly. I don’t think they were intended as a home theatre solution and Apples own site says so. It’s going over AirPlay.
Stereo only. If you want simulated 5.1 or Atmos, you have to use regular Homepods.
Home theater? No.
Stereo pair? Yes.
Whether you use them as TV speaker upgrade or not has nothing to do with the stereo pair issues and them continually falling out of sync.
All I have to say is everything was working perfectly until the Apple did the update. Apple should restore the old way
Or at least give us the ability to downgrade to the previous version while they work on a fix.
Yes same exact thing for me. Connects for a second and then auto switches back to tv speakers

This works but it’s not the same as setting it to default audio in the settings tab.
Now that Apple has stupidly discontinued the full size Home Pod, watch them allow the minis to connect as the default soon.
I have both minis and full-size Homepods connected as Default on different AppleTVs. I'm trying to get a single connected as default and it's not working but a stereo pair of minis works fine.
I got it working the same way but this method works only for some apps... it works for Netflix, but it doesn’t work for CBSN news apps, donno if I miss something in the settings, but definitely wish I can set them in default audio output mode.
Based on advise of others posted here, I am using a pair of minis with my Apple TV 4K.
They do not show as a default option.
On the 4K remote I press and hold the button to the right of the Menu button (looks like a screen icon). A panel is then displayed where I select the “location” of the speakers and I can then select the minis.
Some people have reported that they must frequently redo this when the device is restarted, but in my experience once set, this stays.
MAKE SURE YOU'VE UPDATED YOUR APPLE TV SOFTWARE.
I updated to 14.3 beta, this did not help. :( still not showing on Apple TV4K
