2 apple tv's and 2 apple remotes interfere

I recently bought a second apple tv for the bedroom. The problem is, when I push a button on any of the remote, it not only affects one tv, but also the other. For example:

my kids watching a cartoon in the living room where the apple TV is on the HDMI2 channel on the TVscreen. The TV in the bedroom is on HDMI3. When I push on my remote, not only the tv in the bedroom reacts, but also the tv downstairs switches to HDMI3. Same the opposite, for example the kids stop watching and shut down the apple tv downstairs, also the apple tv upstairs shuts down.

Hi yoeri,

Just to be sure we understand, are you referring to the remote for the TV itself?

If you have the same brand or model of TV, the remote might control multiple TVs when you are trying to change input on just one.

If that's the case, contact the TV manufacturer to see if there is a way to isolate the remote to work with the proper TV

All the best.

Hi yoeri,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Apple Support Communities. We see that you have two Apple TV remotes that are controlling both Apple TV devices at the same time.

We're glad to help.

It sounds like the remotes aren't paired to the Apple TV you want them to be used with.

To get them paired, follow these instructions, including unplugging the Apple TV first:

If your Apple TV remote isn’t working - Apple Support

Take Care.

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately that's not the problem. I can use the correct remote to the correct TV. When I use the remote, everything happens correctly on the correct TV.

But for some reason 2 extra events happen on the other apple TV:

  1. it changes the HDMI channel (the TV in the living room is on HDMI 2 and the one in the bedroom is on HDMI 3) When hitting the remote upstairs, downstairs the TV also changes to HDMI3 and when hitting the remote downstairs, upstairs the TV is also changing to HDMI2.
  2. When one of the apple tv's shuts down (through remote or after 15min inactive) then both TV's turn off or when hitting one of the remotes, both TV's turn on..

Kind regards, Yoeri
