cannot erase Samsung T7/ nor add files to it

I just got the Samsung T7 yesterday. I backed up my MacBook Pro 16" running Big Sur . It is in Read only mode. That cannot be changed. I cannot drag any files into it. When I go to disk utility to erase it and start over I get the following. screen shots included. you can see the only choices I have for reformat and the error code. second and third screen shots out of order....is it just a bad drive and I should send back to amazon?
