Apple Music Wont Sync Library (Error -9810)

Was having some issues with Apple Music not syncing properly, so I disabled Syncing from the preferences in an effort to re-enable them.

Now as soon as the App tries to enable syncing I get an error:

I've tried Googling this Unknown error (-9810) but no avail. Now Apple Music is essentially useless on this Mac. I can only listen to music I had already synced to it previously (which wasn't much).

So after researching it, I believe this error is an SSL connection error, so Apple Music thinks the network is not secure, likely because both of those apps filter network data. I think you could have both Little Snitch and AdGuard running as long as:

  • Little Snitch has an exception to Let all Apple Music data through unfiltered.
  • AdGuard is not running a VPN or filtering app data and HTTPS protocol (these are all options in the preferences)

At least, for me, I was having exactly the same problem as you and it seems to be working fine now under these options. Worth a shot if you would still like to have Little Snitch!

Okay, so the problem has come back now, and I'm *not* running Little Snitch, but Ad Guard is installed (albeit not running right now in an attempt to get things working) and I'm still having issues. So I think I'm going to have to ditch AdGuard. Frustrating for sure, but better than things not working.

I tried disabling a bunch of things in the AdGuard preferences and it still doesn't want to work. It's not worth the aggravation that's for sure.

Update: uninstalled Ad Guard. Still haven't reinstalled Little Snitch. Still having issues with it uploading. Every time I try to upload something the activity just spins. Eventually an error message about being unable to return Genius results comes up, and then things stop and in the little status bar at the bottom of the screen it says "an error occurred".

This is especially frustrating because once I got things working last week, I was able to upload/match a couple of albums to my library no problem. Nothing has changed since then (I was running AdGuard at that point). So now I don't know if this is an Apple Music issue or what.

UPDATE: Been in chat with Apple Support for about an hour. Was able to restore access to iCloud Library by booting into safe mode and trying while in that. So that was re-assuring. But now logged back in in "regular" mode, the "Loading Cloud Music Library" process is continuing to just hang. Still trying to sort out what the **** the issue is.

Okay, one more update: I uninstalled Little Snitch and things seem to be working again. Since it wouldn't run in Safe Boot mode it stands to reason it might be the culprit. I'm going to reach out to their team and see if they have any ideas.

But if anyone else encounters this problem, and they have Little Snitch running, try uninstalling it and see if it fixes the problem.

Interesting. I'm ALSO running AdGuard and noticed some weird behaviour from it as well (it was causing my Microsoft Edge install to not connect to the internet).

However, my problems with Apple Music have gone away since uninstalling Little Snitch. So maybe it's a conflict between those two apps? Certainly it seems like something related to the system extensions these apps are now loading.
