iPhone 8 not making text alert noise

my wife’s iPhone 8 will not make a text alert noise when I or another friend text her. However it does when my daughter texts her and also when I text her in our family group text Any ideas

iphone 11 not playing alert sound nor vibrating when texts are received My wife's iphone 11 does not play a sound when a text message is received. All settings show that for "messages" that sound is on for that ap, and that "silent mode" is off. It doesn't "vibrate" either, and that setting is on for both regular and silent modes. There's a small icon next to the messages that has a speaker with a line through it, but have no idea what it is or why it's there. Anyhow, need to get the sound and vibration working again -- any suggestions? Thanks

iPhone not always sounding text alerts My iPhone is not always playing text alerts. I cannot reproduce it. I've made sure that the phone is not silenced, Do Not Disturb is not on or scheduled. I'm not driving. Latest iOS is installed. Within cellular coverage area (often with wifi). If I look, the texts are there. But there was no alert sound. Is there any other reason why this could be happening?

Have her check the two that she does not get notifications for and see if Hide Alerts is turned on. Have her open the text, then tap on the name at the top, then tap Info, and she should see the setting for Hide Alerts. If it is on, turn it off.
