iPhone not always sounding text alerts

My iPhone is not always playing text alerts. I cannot reproduce it. I've made sure that the phone is not silenced, Do Not Disturb is not on or scheduled. I'm not driving. Latest iOS is installed. Within cellular coverage area (often with wifi).

If I look, the texts are there. But there was no alert sound.

Is there any other reason why this could be happening?
