Blocking Text Messages With iMessage

After researching on Apple Support, I researched blocking text messages from my Apple cellphone with VERIZON cell service. We are increasingly getting unsolicited advertisers texting us. The texts are showing up directly on our iMessages and the numbers do not show up on the phone list of recent calls so I am unable to block the number using Contacts. Verizon says they are unable to block iMessages on iPhones. I suspect I am not the only one with this problem and I'm sure it will continue to grow. Is Apple currently working to give the iMessage user the ability to block texts directly from the iMessage App? What is Apple's plan going forward to address this?

Thanks for your help!

Just an FYI for any other iPhone users with Verizon cell service getting unwanted text messages from unknown numbers... I found an article that USA Today posted late last year. hthttps://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/columnist/2019/08/29/spam-text-messages-6-clever-ways-stop-them/2141700001/

Reporting a robotext or spam message to your cellular carrier is a great

step to take in the fight against robotexts and spam messages. Copy and

forward the original text to 7726 (SPAM), free of charge. You can use

this method if you are a Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, or Bell

subscriber.

I also looked up the phone number and it's coming from Alabama and has about 500,000 other people reporting unwanted calls from this number. We'll see what happens!
