See if you can upgrade to 10.11, 10.12, 10.13, 10.14, or 10.15, see sys requirements...

If you are still running OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), then any available updates are found by launching the Mac App Store, signing into the Mac App Store, and selecting the Updates tab on this application.

Upgrades on the otherhand are moving from 10.10 to another major version such as 10.11, 10.12, etc. These upgrades are available via hardware compatibility sites, where you will find a link that reveals the version of OS X/macOS in the Mac App Store, that are not normally shown after a new major version release.

Check menu : About this Mac panel and note that date string in parenthesis from the product description line. Compare that to the links (use Safari browser only) provided by BDAqua to determine which major version of macOS you can upgrade too. Mojave and later introduce System Preferences : Software Update which will provide updates for these later operating systems.
