Messages App not working

I have an iPhone XR. It is up to date with software version 14.2. I can see that I have messages because there is a red number with how any messages haven’t been read. However, when I click on the messages app, it just cones up with a blank white screen that says messages and has the search bar but nothing else. It does have the icon in the tip right corner to write a new message and it will come up as if it’s going to work but it doesn’t. I have an iWatch and the messages are coming to my watch so it has to have something to do with the update on my iPhone I assume. I have looked at lots of things to do and I have done everything short of a factory reset which I am very reluctant to do. Is this a common problem and will there be an update to fix this glitch?

It appears that you have tried everything short of an iPhone reset. My suggestions, may therefore, duplicate what you may have already done and if that happens then please understand.

(1) Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

(2)  If the above does not work then - Try signing out of the Messages app and then signing back again. Open Settings ➔ Messages ➔ Send & Receive ➔ Tap on your Apple ID (Below) ➔ Sign Out : You can then Sign back in with your Apple ID and Password.

See if one of the two solves the issue. If not then I recommend that you contact ➔ Apple Support
