Phonetic guide text

I want to add pinyin to Chinese character and I’ve read about phonetic guide text, but I don’t understand why it doesn’t appear (I use pages) in the options after I click-control

PS If still no luck, try adding a Japanese keyboard in system prefs > keyboard > input sources.

You should not have to do this, of course, but sometimes it forces phonetic guides out of wherever they are hiding...

When I tried to add the language in file>advance>language and regions as explained in the guide it did’t work.

I was able to enable the phonetic guide by adding the language in system preferences>languages and region.

Yes, I have. The option simply doesn’t appear. When I click-control there is convert to this and that and others, but not this one

How about if you select your text and then do Format > Phonetic Guide Text?
