Can’t get my MagSafe charger to work in my car?

Just received my MagSafe charger for my 12 Pro Max. Planning to use it in my car. Plugged it in to my car and doesn’t work. Works fine plugged in inside the house so I know it’s not defective. I don’t have the box anymore for my car charger so I don’t know how much the output is. I’m thinking it may not be powerful enough? What are some recommended USB-c car chargers that are guaranteed to work with the MagSafe?

YES! Me too. I tried THREE different USB-C car chargers, and a USB-A to C adapter. no dice. It charges for a minute then stops. This is a problem. It doesn't matter how much output the charger should have, the magsafe ring should throttle back if it doesn't have the go-ahead to go full 15w. yet here we are.

Hi guys

HELP....

so I have a MagSafe genuine Apple charger for my car, I have brought a brodit magsafe holder / cradle for this purpose , the issue I’ve got is that it is still not charging.

1, new MagSafe works on 240v but not 12v

2, brought An expensive cigarette lighter still no joy.

I gave taken it out of the holder and attached to the phone and still nothing.

I believe no magnet in place to effect charging issues.

so I’m stumped.

cheers guys.

I have the same issue. I was using a magnetic holder, but after reading this I stopped using a magnetic holder and it still does not charge. I am using a $100+ power inverter and using the Apple 20W charger. It's interesting, the power inverter fan comes on when I'm charging my phone using the lightning cable. However, with the MagSafe charger, the fan remains quiet.

I have called Apple Tech support, they sent me a a new MagSafe charger, but I have the same issues.

Thanks I’ll look into this one whilst doing a bit more research.

it does rather become expensive, I love Apple but seriously Apple get a grip

think out the box pls especially designing a puck but no in car charger or genuine MagSafe Apple holder for a car, instead they create a magnet wallet that really only properly works with no cases on the I phone.... only my opinion....

The one I bought works great as long as I don’t use the magnet mount. I tested it today for about 40 minutes. Never stopped once. When on the magnet mount it stops very often. Have you used any kind of draw tester to see what the output actually is with that one? I can confirm without magnet mount it works great. With magnet mount it acts up no matter the brand it would seem.

If folks are interested, I went ahead and posted the plastic spacer I made for you on my etsy page. https://www.etsy.com/listing/937486995/iphone-12-magsafe-charger-automobile

This fixed my magsafe charger puck issue, and Smiley's above. I connected it to the magnetic mount with double stick adhesive.

Hope it's ok, Smiley, I used the photo you sent me for the listing for now. :D

Hi guys. Finally I fixed the problem. Yesterday, I tried several times to connect MagSafe through usual Sony Car Adaptor, but that were unsuccessful attempts. Today I bought a new adapter with next parameters: Baseus Car Charger - PPS 30W Max / PD3.0 / QC4.0+ / SCP / QC3.0 / AFC and it works!!! But if you use original silicone or leather case for your Iphones 12 Pro or Max, there is unpleasant news - after charging you'll have a trace of the contact of MagSafe Charger with the case of the IPhone. I regret that I didn't read reviews about this. It would seems that I was happy to solve the problem, but there is another one arose. Disappointed....

I was having a problem where my magsafe charger would stop charging after I started the car. I would have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to work which was really annoying. Doing some research I discovered that the magsafe has a safety feature that trips it if it's getting a bad power source. I surmised that the voltage drop when my car starts must be tripping the magsafe charger off. The solution I found was to use a battery pack that can output to the USB C while also charging itself through another port. Since doing this I haven't had a problem and I have the added benefit of having a portable battery bank ready to go if I need it. I've included a link to the one that I bought. It charges itself through micro USB while simultaneously powering the magsafe through USB C. Hope this helps someone.
