Catalina not recognizing CD burners

I've got two CD burners, neither of which the latest version of Catalina will recognize--an old Iomega CD-RW, and a Apple Superdrive that's just a few years old. Plugging in, rebooting, blah, blah, blah doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? Even First Aid and Music (R.I.P., iTunes) won't recognize them.

Music CDs will not play under OSX 13.4 External USB CD/DVD player/burner: If I load a disk, it shows on the desktop and in Music/iTunes, but it will not play. The cuts will copy to the computer but the play button does nothing. This is true on both a 2020 iMac and a month-old MacBook Pro, both running Ventura. The same CDs played perfectly on the iMac before I updated the OS to 13, so clearly it's something about Ventura. If there's a setting or something that enables CD-play, I'm missing it. But, it seems, so is the OS.

Updated 10.15.4 Still Same Problem - Doesn't Apple Know This? Since upgrading to Catalina, when I load a original music CD in an external USB-connected Samsung CD/DVD drive, I get this message; "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." I don't think it can be a problem caused by the device or the disk because No problem with Movie DVD's, I never had any problems on previous releases of MacOS reading music CDs, I tried two different external CD/DVD devices with the same result, I can attach the drive to a different laptop runs Win 10 handles the music CD perfectly. What's changed in Catalina and how can I fix it?
