Which ipad model and iPad or MacBook for university

I don’t know what iPad model to buy for school? It’s between the iPad Air (4th gen) or iPad Pro (11 inch) And I’m not sure whether to get an iPad or MacBook? I really want an iPad, but I want to make sure I can do the same on it as a laptop
