Couldn’t see the option to change when I get the notifications of intercom

Hi!

so I was trying out the new intercom feature of HomePod. So I sent the HomePod an intercom message and then through the HomePod TRIED to send myself a message back. But wasn’t able to! Don’t know where my message went... I saw the receive notifications and it showed never, and didn’t see the other options that Apple mentions(anywhere and when I’m at home)... do the notifications have anything to do with receiving the intercom messages? can someone help?
