iPhone parental controls keep turning off on its own

The iPhone parental controls on my child’s iPhone and iPad keep turning off on their own. I have “share across devices” enabled and my child’s iPhone and iPad both completely lose their parental controls automatically for no apparent reason. This is very frustrating as I only bought an iPhone and iPad for my child because the parental controls were so good.

Update: My child’s parental controls turned off again today (December 12, 2020) for no apparent reason. She has an iPad an a iPhone 8 running iOS 14.0.1 and the parental controls just turned off automatically on both devices giving her complete access to all the things I don’t want to her access. I did not select to share across devices.

@Apple this is extremely frustrating. What is happing with your parental controls feature? Fix this ASAP, or we will move to Android devices!

Hi CS257,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We understand you're experiencing an issue when using parental controls on your child's device's. We'd like to help.

It sounds like you have Family sharing set up, and these child device's are part of your family. Please review this article to confirm how you have parental controls configured for those devices: Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support. What part of the parental controls is not working as expected? Or, are you saying the parental controls are completely being removed from the devices? Typically, that can only occur if your password becomes known to the users controlled under parental control, and they enter that password to disable restrictions. We would suggest setting up a new password for the parental controls and testing that possibility out.

Best regards.

I am having this same issue. I have two iPhones linked to my family account for my kids. Both have their own Apple ID and both have IOS 14.2. I have an iPhone 11 also with IOS 14.2. I set screen limits and restrictions with no problem on an iPhone 8 Plus but I’m having issues doing the same on a brand new iPhone SE. Anytime I try to set restrictions the Apple SE resets back to no restrictions. I’ve tried restarting and that doesn’t help. This is happening before I’ve given the phone to my child so they definitely aren’t entering the password. I can see the phone is doing this by itself. Any help fixing this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Update. I removed the “share across device” option and now parental controls work and it doesn’t automatically shut off.

Note this is just a workaround. I would prefer that my child’s two devices would be linked so that the total time used on both devices are linked and limited based on the total time used on both devices. However until Apple fixes this issue, this workaround seems to work.
