7 8 9 I O P J K L keys are not working in Macbook Air. I tried disabling Mouse Keys from System Preferences -> Accessibility but still these keys are not working.

Also I tried pressing Option key 5 times, no luck.

Hey atuban!

It sounds like the Accessibility Mouse Keys may have been enabled for some reason.

I’ve seen this when those particular keys don’t work right.

Try disabling Mouse Keys:

https://support.apple.com/en-jo/guide/mac-help/mchl7b437b35/10.15/mac/10.15

In Short:

Open System Preferences > Accessibility > Pointer Control > Alternate Control Methods > to disable Mouse Keys.

Or, if you prefer not to, you can press Option Command F5, hope that helps!

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar or take it to your local authorized service provider.

This is almost certainly a hardware problem. Either something got spilled on the keyboard or it was otherwise damaged, or the battery is failing and beginning to swell or deform and is pressing on the bottom of the keyboard enough to cause a problem.

Sorry I saw you mentioned Mouse Keys already, I’d still check out those articles, it would be very strange for those specific keys to not be responding. Especially if they work on the login screen.

If so, you can also create a new admin with a fresh set of preferences, or even boot into recovery mode, (Startup holding Command R, then select Utilities > Terminal, and type).

Chances are if it works everywhere but your user profile, I’d say a repair will not fix it, an you should look at the user profile instead.

But can you confirm if the same keys do work elsewhere? And also, even, if an external keyboard does the same?

Another good test, (While you’re in the Accessibility Settings is the on screen keyboard, how does that respond?). Cheers.
