Hi there, william250.
It appears that you're unable to use FaceTime on your MacBook Air because the FaceTime camera isn't connected, and we're glad to help with this.
If FaceTime isn't working on your Mac - Apple Support -- Follow the steps provided in the section titled "If your camera or microphone doesn’t work".
Let us know how that goes.
Take care.

Greetings: First of all, Apple Support was fantastic from start to finish. Even after many dropped calls from my service provider, Apple Support kept on reconnecting to me. As so often is the case, the complex solutions were attacked first, however, the solution was in simplest place. The webcam had been blocked inside the Privacy Settings of my antivirus program. It was there right in front of me every time I booted my MacBook Air when I got a pop up message telling me the webcam was blocked. However, this pop up message was on my MacBook and the problem was on my wife's MacBook. It took a lot of time and frustration, but then a long break overnight cleared my head to get to the answer.
