error connecting to the apple id server

I can't login to iCloud due to "There is an error connecting to the apple id server".

MacBook Pro 2017 Big Sur

It has only occurred since I upgraded to Big Sur

I have tried all the suggestions that outlined here https://macreports.com/verification-failed-there-was-an-error-connecting-to-the-apple-id-server-fix/

But still the problem exists.

I also cannot get access to the App Store; all I get is a white tab with nothing not even a spinning beach ball.

I can visit appleid.apple.com and enter my details but still no access to iCloud or App Store.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

Are you running any anti - virus programs? Using a VPN?

Try setting up another admin user account in System Preferences/Users & Groups to see if the same problem continues. Also try the Safe Mode.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

Safe Mode - About.

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. If the log won’t post, try posting it in Pastebin and provide a link in a reply. After pasting the report in a PasteBin page, go to the top of the page, and copy the address in the URL bar. Paste that in a new reply.        Pastebin.

Thanks for your reply.

i tried all of what you suggested but still not working.

I created another admin account and still had same error.

I restarted in safe mode and still have the error.

I even tried “forgot password”. I got notification to input my phone number and reset my password that way but still no resolution. So there must be some sort of recognition.

outlook App and OneDrive App are not able to sign in. Many other 3rd party apps do not function either

Before anyone insists it’s an error at my end, this problem only occurred since upgrade to Big Sur.

I do have internet connectivity, I am not using a vpn or anti-virus software.

maybe a revert to Catalina is the only viable solution? I have a time machine backup.

See below is what happens when I click on App Store. Yes I know I need to be logged into iCloud to access it but I can’t even get that far!

I do appreciate that the community is trying to help, and am thankful and mindful of this.

Just another update, which might clarify matters a little!

my laptop is a company machine. While the issues are with my local login ( but also exist in company domain login) I traveled into work and connected to work LAN.

it took a number of reboots and eventually the Apple ID was verified ( in local login).

we’ll see how things go!

thanks

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the pointer.

I tried restarting/resetting the home router but still had the same issues.

However....

I noticed on my phone that the wifi had "weak security" and saying WPA is not so secure. So, logging into router and changing the security to WPA2 AES has cleared everything up.

I don't know whether work/apple servers are looking at originating IP and whether there is a possibility it may be compromised due to low security features????

Anyhow, I'm up and running and hopefully all well for a good while!

Thanks all.

Actually, Problem not resolved!

If I use the LAN all my problems go away.

If i use the wifi afterwards it still works but once MacBook goes to sleep I have the same problems. SO it must be a wifi/router issue.

My home office is away from the router so can't easily use LAN (am now using a TP-Link over the electrical sockets to get LAN into office but this is a work around not a solution).

I have tried a quick check with Personal Hotspot so I'm not going through my router or wifi and still not working this way!

So basically I have a desk-tied MacBook Pro...!

I'll keep working on this!
